The Moriches Community Center offers a variety of programs designed to benefit a wide array of children.
Almost all of our programs are run by community volunteers and all cost little or nothing to participate in.
After School Tutoring
Since 2001, Moriches Community Center has provided after school tutoring assistance for Center Moriches elementary students who are struggling academically and who would benefit from short term individual assistance. Camp Creativity
Registration has begun for Summer 2010! First offered in summer of 2002, Camp Creativity is an alternative to the many summer sports programs in our area. In 2009, 175 youth in grades K-5 from Center Moriches, East Moriches, Manorville and Mastic/Shirley enjoyed a week of arts and crafts, games, snacks and informal recreation activities...
Community Outreach
Since 2002, Moriches Community Center has provided holiday assistance to local needy families. Last Thanksgiving, students at Clayton Huey Elementary School and Red Robin preschool helped gather nonperishable foods for distribution by adult volunteers to 13 families whose names were provided by school social workers...
Olympic Camp
Olympic Camp is open to youth in grades 2-7, and is a fun-filled week of games, socialization and light competitions where team work, physical fitness and diversity tolerance are promoted. Open Recreation Night
Begun in 2003, "Take a Stand" Open Recreation program offers weekly noncompetitive recreation activities to elementary and middle school age youth, while promoting diversity tolerance and encouraging positive behavior choices. Peer Leadership
In the fall of 2005, discussions among middle school students revealed that students are struggling every day with issues such as bullying, harassment, negative peer pressure and social insecurities. Theater Arts Camp
In the summer of 2005, in response to requests from parents, Moriches Community Center initiated an informal theater camp where about 60 youth in grades 1-9 prepared for and presented "Grease: A Revue". The camp was expanded in summer 2006 to a four week camp facilitated by Kelly Parlato which targets youth wishing to explore theater arts as a possible future vocation...
